So I was watching my handsome self on my NG profile, looking and randomly at my stats and everything, and I came across a really interesting piece of info about my account...
OH SNAP!
Today is my 8th NG birthday...
I seriously can't remember exactly when or why I created the account. I was 14 back then and still in High School and spent hours waiting for the Teletubbies cartoon to load on my 28.8k internet connection.
I strangely had a blast clubbing baby seals, texting god for answers on life and watching user created cat cyborgs. Now, I could follow the quite obvious and predictable path by saying that things were much better back then, but I won't for 2 reasons...
1. I really became involved in the website around 2003 only, when I started submitting Flash to the portal and writing on the BBS. So I only had a faint idea of what the website really represented. Plus, I was a moronic teen back then, like most of that age :P
2. I think the quality of submissions on the website has grown exponentially since the Portal was created back in 2000 (or was it 1999?). Sure, there's a lot of spam, but it's always been there, only the number is bigger nowadays.
In 8 years, the community has really grown, and I'm really proud to call myself an Newgroundser (well, as long as I stay away from the General BBS anyway :P). I had the chance to meet members from all over the world through the different meet-ups and live things I won't forget soon (like Luis dancing. Priceless :D).
So it's been 8 years.
And here's to another 8 years!
P.S. : I'm tempted to make a parallel with Bush's presidency in those past 8 years, but I won't.
