So I've been working on a screenplay with a director I met at my old job for about 6 months now. I've written, re-written and re-re-written the whole damn thing on my own time without getting a cent out of it, but I still a blast. This is also why I'm really excited right now!
My director just announced to me that we'll be meeting with one of the countries' biggest producer next week. He managed to book the meeting through one of his pal directors who's currently working with her. I doubt you'd know her, but if you were by any chance at Sundance a couple of weeks ago, she's the one that produced "Les 7 Jours du Talion" or whatever the english name is...
And this is not even the best part of it. Usually in Quebec/Canada, to get some financing on a movie, you have to deposit the project to a government agency called SODEQ and TELEFILM CANADA. The process takes months and months and you may have to wait up to 2 years to actually get paid for you movie *that is if they like the project). This is not the case with this producer. Since her movies have done fairly well at the box-office, she has an "enveloppe" giving to her by SODEQ, which means she can finance the development of the movies she likes right from the get go!
tl;dr of that last part : If she likes it (the director tells me she's really interested), I might get paid right off after her meeting!
The movie is called ROSE, it's a dark comedy and I'll keep you updated on what's happening, cause this is only the beginning...
P.S. Luis, if this all goes well, next time I see you in Montreal, I'm paying for ALL your booze :P
Luis
wow thats awesome! The booze part, but yea the screenplay stuff too!
